Importance of Online Visibility

Gone are the days…..

When was the last time when you bought something, without doing an online search on it? Can’t remember? Me too! The buying behavior has changed dramatically in the past decade. It’s not going to stop here, as it still continues to evolve, the question which most Business owners or Entrepreneurs have or will have is ” Will I survive this storm?”. The answer to this question lies in your inert ability to embrace change and transform yourself.

We are glued to our mobiles or desktops 24*7. Online surfing is part of our daily life. We get information about everything and anything under the sun from various search engines. Did you know Google handles a staggering 63,000 search queries every second (https://bit.ly/35j1ECK)? They are also the most popular search engine on the internet. Therefore it becomes imperative to have good visibility on Google in order to attract more customers.

Now to the two major points about how crucial online visibility can be for your business.

Firstly, online visibility is all about making your business visible in search engines especially Google. As a business owner or entrepreneur, it’s not an option but a necessity.  Otherwise sooner or later ( sad to say but true) we will be out of business! Why? because our customers are going to our competitors for their needs only because we are less visible than our competitors.

Now, secondly just appearing on Google search is not enough! Yes, more bad news coming our way! According to a study done on consumer online behaviors, our customers in most cases never bother visiting the second page of Google, when searching for a business. This means our competitors on the first page of Google get the chunk of our customers. Have a look at this article. It explains in-detail the advantage of being visible on the first page of Google.

So, our aim should be to constantly and consistently work on creating more and more online visibility for our business. This will help us progress our business in the right direction without having to worry about getting the next customer.

Is your Business website SSL certified?

What is SSL?

The full form of SSL is Secure Socket Layer. It enables a secure and safe online conversation  with your website users.

How does it work?

Imagine you were speaking to a friend of yours about something very important and someone overhears your conversation. Would you feel safe? What if your conversation had sensitive personal information like a bank account number or your Date of Birth?

These information can be a potential gold mine for a person wanting to steal your information and use it for his selfish purposes. It can be a potential disaster!

Now imagine, you were speaking to the same friend about the same information in a  so called ” SSL zone”. No third person can understand what you both were speaking because every word spoken is coded into a secret language. Doesn’t it instantly makes you feel safe?

This is what an SSL does to your website. It creates a secure layer which encodes every information shared between you and your customers. Therefore, no hacker can understand what the conversation was about.

Why should  you get one for your website?

  • Customer trust is improved as it provides an added assurance to your website visitors.
  • It guards against hacking and phishing
  • Builds your credibility and authority
  • Most importantly Google recognises your website to be safe for online users to visit. Otherwise your visitors will get a message warning them that the site is non secure. This can mean loss of valuable potential customers.

Note: After July 24th 2018, websites without a SSL certificate will be marked as Nonsecure.

So ,if you want to get your website SSL certified, get in touch.

How to do a SWOT analysis for your Business?

When running a business, the “Ignorance is bliss” approach may seem tempting but may create major roadblocks when trying to scale heights.

Successful Business owners often know their business inside out. One of the ways they do this is by conducting a SWOT analysis.

Albert Humphrey discovered the SWOT analysis in the 1960s. It helped companies understand their business as a whole and analyze their current situation.

SWOT stands for Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats. This doesn’t need to be complicated and is simple enough for any individual to do it.

Just list out the 4 categories and do a brainstorming session with your colleagues to make it a more joyful exercise.

1.Strengths: This can be anything that sets your business apart from your competition like knowledge, experience, certifications, workforce, product /service uniqueness, location, you could include things from your SHINE list.

2.Weakness: Anything that’s hindering your progress ex: bad reviews, cash flow problems, too many employee absences, etc.

3.Opportunities: For example a gap in the market where you could help, a specific niche or group of people, new ways to reach your customers, etc.

4.Threats: This can include your competitors, too many start-ups in your niche, government regulations affecting your industry as a whole, etc.

Once the exercise is done, you would have a clear picture of the various things that require immediate attention. These can help revise your goals and equip you for future challenges.

A simple way to use your SWOT list is as follows:

  • Use and build on your strengths to stand out,
  • Work on your Weaknesses,
  • Get ready to use the opportunities that are coming your way
  •  Think of ways to minimize the effect of the Threats.

Do you know what’s unique about your business?

A USP is simply your Unique Selling Point. It is the most important factor, which sets you apart from your competitors.

Customers nowadays have an array of products and services to choose from, so how would you stand out and beat the competition?

This is where a USP can work its magic. If you can figure out your USP, standing out in a crowd is easily accomplished.

Below, is a very easy way to achieve this-

Prepare a “SHINE” list for your business. This list will comprise of

  •          What your business stands for,
  •          What it does the best
  •          The end result of your products or services
  •          Customer experience.

Analyze your competitors, watch their adverts and marketing messages.

Now, strike off the points, which are well met by your competitors.

You will be left with the ones that actually define your business.

Select the one, which you feel is the most appropriate for your business.

Use this message in your marketing communications and position yourself in your niche.

Remember to revise this list from time to time and tweak your USP according to the changing market needs.

To test your understanding, visit the site http://www.toms.com.

Try and spot their USP. Do write in the comments section and let me know what your answers are.
